A Message from the Pastor

Greetings Hope Road Family,

Unfortunately, I was not able to have our weekly video recorded today. However, I still wanted to send you an encouragement, which is part of the preparation for our bible study on Wednesday. Over the next couple of weeks we want to shift our attention to “Practicing the Presence of God.” As Christians we believe that EVERYTHING that we need is found in Him. However, we often times get distracted and prioritize other things. I want to take this time to remind you, JESUS IS ALL WE NEED!

Colossians 1: 25-23

1. Christ is SUPREME (v. 15-18)
Paul says, you want an explanation for creation? Let me tell you who created the world, sustains the world, give purpose to the world, who holds the world, who existed before the world- CHRIST!
This few verses reveals:
Christ in relation to God (More than a good man, He is God!)
Christ in relation to Creation (Never created, he is the Creator)
Christ in relation to the Church (He is the head of the Church)

2. Christ is SUFFICIENT (v.19-21)
Paul moves to address the evil in the world, by pointing out the evil in the hearts of the Colossians.
The world is evil because you are evil. But I have good news- CHRIST can fix that! HE gives them the undiluted gospel! Enemies of God, and through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ he is redeeming men and the world to himself. He is sufficient.

3. Christ is the SURE FOUNDATION
Note he is not “A” sure foundation he is “THE” sure foundation! You can trust in Him, you can believe
Him. HE is able and willing to save!

Conclusion (v.23)
Paul closes by addressing the nail head on- he doesn’t call them to action. HE doesn’t give them a prescription of behaviors. He calls them to hold firm in their faith- their belief! The only way to get rid of the nail is to believe that Christ is who he says he is- Supreme, Sufficient and Sure! Everything we need is in him.

I want you to keep these truths in mind as we start our journey on “Practicing the Presence of God” this coming Wednesday!

Call to Pray

Greetings Hope Road family,

In light of COVID-19 one of the practices the church must continuously engage in is prayer. As a result, we want to strategically and purposefully pray as a congregation over the next 21 days (March 23rd-April 12th) around 3 major areas:

  1. We want to pray for the entire globe. Each day we will pray for one of the world areas as defined by the Church of the Nazarene
  2. We want to pray for our society. We will be using the “7 mountains of society” model to identify crucial components of our society that needs the Wisdom of God at this time.
  3. We will be continuing to pray GOD R.U.L.E.S as we continuously seek to be a Christ-centered people and church at this time.

We are asking, that you set aside 30 minutes every day to cover the three areas identified. Each Sunday, I will send you the prayer points for the week (this will be for 3 weeks).

Let’s stand in the gap for our community, country and global brothers and sisters together.

Yours In Christ,
Rev. D. Richards

A Message from the Pastor

Greetings Hope Road family. I pray you are all well.

I know by now, we have all been impacted in some way by the spread of the coronavirus across the globe. The warnings from the medical experts, coupled with the experiences of other countries have indicated to us that the virus is something that should be taken seriously, and as a country, community and family, we should make the necessary adjustments.

However, adjusting in no way means we need to allow fear or anxiety to consume us. As I encouraged you last week, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct your path” Proverbs 3:5-6. This means that we,

Have the Right Perspective: Trust God’s Will
Have the Right Posture: Trust God’s Word
Engage in the Right Practices: Trust God’s Ways

These three points are timeless and can guide use in any crises.

As we are expected to adjust in our personal lives, we are also expected to adjust as a community of faith. By now, all, if not most of you may know Barbados is now in Phase 2 of our response to COVID-19. This means there are now restrictions on gatherings of more than 25. As a result, we are cancelling our service tomorrow, March 22, 2020.

Instead you will receive a video encouragement from me tomorrow. We will follow up with you during the week to outline the plan for our time in isolation.

God bless you. Keep safe.

Prayer for the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Barbados Nazarene District has encouraged all Nazarene churches to join in prayer for the COVID-19 pandemic. Join us at Hope Road this evening at 7:30pm as we present our requests to our Sovereign God!

All persons over the age of 70 and those who are feeling unwell are asked to remain at home.

Those attending, are reminded to walk with an item for our care pack to assist fellow members of our church and community who may be in need during this time.
